See You at the Pole

Below is the history of SYATP. I learned this past weekend that the small group that began this were only 10 teenagers! Now, 18 years later, that number is over 3 million!! GO GOD!!

See You at the Pole™ HistoryA small group of teenagers in Burleson, Texas, came together for a DiscipleNow weekend in early 1990. They came seeking God. Little did they know how powerfully God was about to move. On Saturday night God penetrated their hearts like never before. The students were broken before God and burdened for their friends. Compelled to pray, they drove to three different schools that night. Not knowing exactly what to do, they went to the school flagpoles and prayed for their friends, schools, and leaders. Those students had no idea how God would use their obedience.

God used what He did among those teenagers and others who were holding similar prayer meetings at their schools to birth a vision in the hearts of youth leaders across Texas. The vision was that students throughout Texas would follow these examples and meet at their school flagpoles to pray simultaneously. The challenge was named See You at the Pole at an early brainstorming session. The vision was shared with 20,000 students in June 1990 at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas.

Only God had envisioned how many students would step up to the challenge. At 7:00 a.m. on September 12, 1990, more than 45,000 teenagers met at school flagpoles in four different states to pray before the start of school.

A few months later, a group of youth ministers from all over the country gathered together for a national conference in Colorado. Many of them reported that their students had heard about the prayer movement in Texas and were equally burdened for their schools. No other events had been planned, but it was clear that students across the country would be creating their own national day of student prayer. There was no stopping them.

On September 11, 1991, at 7:00 a.m., one million students gathered at school flagpoles all over the country. From Boston, Massachusetts, to Los Angeles, California, students came together to pray. Some sang, some read Scripture, but most importantly, they prayed. Like those first students, they prayed for their schools, for their friends, for their leaders, and for their country.

As in all great movements of prayer, See You at the Pole™ did not begin in the hearts of people. It began in the heart of God. God used the obedience of a small group of teenagers to ignite what has become an international movement of prayer among young people.

Since 1991, See You at the Pole™ has grown to God-sized proportions. Within only a couple of years, students were praying in several countries around the world. Now, more than 3 million students from all 50 states participate in SYATP. Students in more than 20 countries take part. In places like Canada, Guam, Korea, Japan, Turkey, and the Ivory Coast, students are responding to God and taking seriously the challenge to pray.

God is continuing to call His people to repentance and prayer. Countless inspiring testimonies of how He has used See You at the Pole™ to bring students to Christ and to change lives affirm God’s power to answer those who cry out to Him in humble dependence. Bible clubs, weekly prayer meetings, and other ministries have begun on campuses where students participated in SYATP.

Homecoming

Today was Homecoming at Oakdale. It was great to go "home" and visit. Oakdale Baptist Church really holds special memories for me and my family. I grew up there and learned a great deal. As I reflect back, I can see how God placed each one of my Sunday School teachers, Acteen leaders, and Youth leaders in my life and prepared me for who I am today.

As I sat there with my family I thought back to the day, seventeen years ago, Mr. Porter married my best friend and I. He also dedicated and baptized Taylor. This spiritual led man and his precious wife, Mrs. Rosa, will always have a special place in our family's heart.

I am now a Sunday School teacher and an Acteens leader/helper at a great church, West Edgecombe Baptist Church. I don't know that I would be any of the above had I not had the knowledge I needed about Jesus Christ and the love of a church family. I thank God today for Oakdale Baptist Church and pray that this church will continue to be a blessing to others as it has always been for me and my family.

Bipolar

Disclaimer: If you or a love one suffer from the condition known as Bipolar, I am NOT in anyway making fun of you or your loved ones. Seriously.

After many hours of observation, I can honestly say that my cat is bipolar. She-he (I really wanted this cat to be a girl but unfortunately it is a boy-Scott and Taylor say I am in denial) is extremely sweet one minute, and the next she-he is running up the wall and throwing herself-himself into doors.

If that is not enough, she attacks our sweet, innocent dog Peanut when she is mad at us.
Some might say that I am being overly dramatic. I am posting the following picture to provide the proof that she-he is a vicious, finger-eating monster.

Yes, that is my child's finger in she-he's mouth. Look at those evil I mean precious eyes. I would post a picture of the sweet side but, she-he is sleeping in all of them. Also, it took FOREVER to post the picture above. Anyway, you can see for yourself what we are dealing with. I'll let you form your own opinions.

Later Peeps!

On a Roll!

My second post! I really had this brillant post for today for all my three readers. That number even includes Me, Myself, and I! Try not to be disappointed peeps!

However, this morning I was reading a blog that really spoke to my heart. In my Christian walk, I have this up and down relationship with my Savior. At different times in my life I am at different levels with Him. I start out walking the narrow path with Him and then find that I've allowed that path to become the size of a highway. I guess you could say that I've allowed the world and it's views to dictate my life rather than relying on the One who is the Creator of me.

This post below really reminded me that no matter what level I am at with God, I know that when I truly SEEK Him with all of my heart, He is always right there for me. Life sure is better when the highway becomes a path again!

Later Peeps!

(For those of you who are blog experts, I know there is a easier way to link the post. I just can't figure it out. Help a sister out if you know how.)
